Transnational network of national platforms of minority community media

Since 2002, Online/More Colour in the Media and partner organisations like Cospe, Mira Media, NORDSAM and Indvandrer TV have been bringing together local minority media and organisations running national platforms of such media. Over the course of several wokshops, these have established a transnational network, which is currently launching the "European Manifesto to support and underline the importance of minority community media". It is financially supported by the European Commission, Community Action Programme to Combat Discrimination (2001-2006).

The transnational network of national platforms of minority community media has, as of this writing, been extended to fifteen countries. They co-operate with each other and a large number of national and local organisations and initiatives to improve the position of ethnic media throughout Europe and in each of the EU member states. It has drafted the "European Manifesto" to call for recognition of the role minority community media play in Europe and draw attention to the challenges these media face. It has now launched a campaign to collect signatures for the Manifesto. The initiative will culminate in the presentation of the European Manifesto during the European elections in 2004 to the President of the European Parliament.

Online/More Colour in the Media supports the co-operation of ethnic and multicultural media in national platforms and considers it a valuable avenue to minority empowerment. It hopes to thus contribute to improving the position of minority media.
